Pasur in Hamdor

Pasur, also called Chahar Barg ("four cards") or Haft Khaj ("seven clubs"), is one of Iran's oldest card games. You hold four cards at a time and capture from the table: a number card takes cards that add up to eleven with it, a queen takes a queen, a king takes a king, and a jack sweeps almost everything. Clear the table in one capture and you have made a sur. The rules fit in a minute, but counting clubs and leaving a table your opponent can't sweep make it a real game of skill.

In Hamdor you can play Pasur with two or four players, online against real players, in a private room with friends, or offline against bots.

How to play Pasur

  1. Four cards each and four face up on the table. A jack on the opening table goes back into the pack; more than one jack, or three queens or kings, means a reshuffle.
  2. A number card takes one set of table cards that adds up to eleven together with it (aces count one).
  3. A queen takes one queen and a king takes one king. A jack takes everything except queens and kings.
  4. Clearing the table is a sur: 5 points. A jack never makes a sur, and there is no sur in the last deal.
  5. Each round: seven or more clubs 7 points, two of clubs 2, ten of diamonds 3, each ace 1 and each jack 1 (20 in all, plus surs).
  6. Cards left on the table go to the last player who took something. Games run to 62 or 105 points.

These are the exact rules Hamdor plays by; the app shows them too, under each game's How to play tab.

Pasur the Iranian way

  • Make eleven: a number card takes one set of table number cards that adds up to 11 together with it; aces count one.
  • Jacks, queens, kings: a jack takes everything except queens and kings. A queen takes one queen and a king one king.
  • Sur is 5 points: clearing the table scores 5, but a jack never makes a sur, and there is no sur in the last deal.
  • Card points: seven or more clubs 7, two of clubs 2, ten of diamonds 3, each ace and each jack 1; 20 per round, plus surs.
  • Leftovers: cards still on the table at the end go to the last player who captured.
  • Four ways to play: two players or four (two teams of two, partners opposite), to 62 or 105 points.

Tips to win at Pasur

  • Count the clubs. Seven of the thirteen clubs is worth 7. If you hold four or five, fight for the rest; if the other side already has seven, stop taking risks for them.
  • Don't leave the table under eleven. If the table holds only number cards adding up to 10 or less, one right card sweeps it. Discard so the total goes above 10.
  • Save jacks for a full table. A jack can't make a sur, so its value is in a big capture, especially with aces, the ten of diamonds or the two of clubs on the table.
  • Mind lone queens and kings. If a queen is the only card on the table, any queen takes it for a sur. Never leave a lone queen or king on an empty table.
  • Keep scoring cards off the table. Play the ten of diamonds and the two of clubs when they capture, not as discards your opponent can pick up.
  • Plan the last deal. There is no sur in the last deal and the leftovers go to the last capturer, so a small late capture can win the whole table.
